Excellent public course, greens have been significantly improved in 2014.
The holes could be tricked-up a bit by additional greenside bunkering and faster greens. Otherwise, it has good length to most holes and can be difficult if your ball veers off the fairways.

Otherwise, good value for money and very friendly staff in the clubhouse.

The chances of Grange Castle ever featuring in the top 100 course are, to be fair, quite slim.

This is a young public parkland course. The age of the course can be seen by the amount of planting in place. Yes, in a few years time when the course has had a chance to mature, it will offer a tougher challenge, but until that time the main protection on the course comes from its length.

Measuring around 6750 yards from the competition tees, many of the par 4s will require & drive & long iron/hybrid if you are looking to hit the green in regulation.

For a course which sees extremely high traffic from Societies & non-members, the standard of maintenance is admirable. Great efforts were put into the greens in the past year, and they do now play more truly than they have in the past.

The stand out holes on the course would be the the 4th, a dog leg left requiring the golfer to carry water off the tee, before again crossing more water to hit into the green. It is a hole which wouldn't be out of place on the vast majority of top Parklands in the country.

Further on, the par 3 11th offers a testing long tee shot, into the prevailing wind, which required the player to cross water off the tee into an elevated green protected by large bunkers on either side.

A run of 4 par 4 holes running from 13-16th can make or break a card & offer a stern test of your shot making skills, the index 2 16th in particular provides a tough decision off the tee. A lake & well placed stream will gobble up any ball from a greedy driver, but laying up will leave a long approach into the green.

Overall, Grange Castle is probably the best Public Parkland Course in the Leinster area. It is unlikely to win any awards but offers a fair test to golfers of all standards at a very reasonable price.

The excellent fairways and true greens at Grange Castle is the result of the excellent drainage that was incorporated into the design and fantastic maintenance by the dedicated ground staff. With enough change out of €20 for a hot beverage and a chocolate bar whilst playing midweek, GC will be hard to beat on value when it comes to golfing in coming the winter months.
The course has a few tricky holes that will more than likely blemish the lower handicapper’s scorecards; the dog left over water 4th, the dog right 14th and longish par 4 16th all holes where accurate driving is paramount. In the main the course is suited to the mid - high handicapper with generous fairways and large targets it will appease the casual golfer.
